Inversa™ Silverfin leathers support the restoration of the Mississippi River Basin ecosystem, where invasive silverfin carp outcompete indigenous species.
Ethical exotics that restore nature.
The Mississippi River Basin

A relative of carp native to China, Silverfin were imported to the US from Southeast Asia in the 1970's with the intention of managing aquatic vegetation in ponds. 1990s flooding enabled these fish to escape into the Mississippi River Basin.
Since then, they have outcompeted almost all native species and degraded water quality from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico.
Eating up to 40% of their body weight per day, Silverfin populations in the Mississippi consume the base of the food chain and produce harmful waste that reduces water quality and kills off sensitive organisms.
Silverfin grow up to 90 lbs / 41 kg, and can jump up to 3 meters in the air. This behavior causes injuries and material damages to fishers.

"From the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico – an ecological lifeline to millions."
Ecosystem at a Glance
A 30-million-acre ecological lifeline for North America – home to over 870 species of fish and wildlife, and the backbone of communities from the Great Lakes to the Gulf of Mexico.
The overpopulation of invasive carp threatens this rich biodiversity, causing ecological imbalances and putting the livelihoods of those who depend on the river system at risk. Silverfin is the material response – turning removal into restoration.
